Marshall Can’t Catch Up To Stevens
Marshall fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-4 loss to Stevens on Tuesday. Stevens scored on a single by Matthew Flores and an error in the first inning.
Marshall lost despite out-hitting Stevens nine to eight.
Stevens opened up scoring in the first inning. Stevens scored one run when Flores singled.
Marshall scored four runs in the seventh inning. Marshall’s offense in the inning came from singles by Ronnie Wenzel and Ben Klar and a walk by Abdiel Arroyo.
Stevens scored three runs in the seventh inning. The big inning for Stevens came thanks to singles by Jacob Arriola and Pete Bustamante and by Louis Bonillas.
Arriola was the winning pitcher for Stevens. He surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five.
Ziegen Farley took the loss for Marshall. He went one inning, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.
Cristian Aguilar started the game for Marshall. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out four
Matt Zepeda went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Marshall in hits.
Stevens saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Gabriel Casanova and Arriola each managed multiple hits for Stevens. Casanova led Stevens with three hits in four at bats. Stevens tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Fabian Bernal led the way with four.
