It came down to the last play, but Marshall was on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to O’Connor on Friday. The game was tied at six with O’Connor batting in the bottom of the eighth when Walker Jordan hit a solo homer.
Marshall collected eight hits and O’Connor had ten in the high-scoring affair.
Marshall got on the board in the second inning. Joe Zavala drew a walk, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, O’Connor tied things up at six when Kevin Potts singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
O’Connor scored four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by O’Connor was led by Jordan, Sammy Castillo, and Potts, who all drove in runs.
Caleb Smith was credited with the victory for O’Connor. He allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, walking zero. Jake Hermesch threw four and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Matt Zepeda took the loss for Marshall. He allowed ten hits and seven runs over seven and a third innings, striking out two.
Mauro Bustamante started the game for O’Connor. He lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out two
O’Connor tallied two home runs on the day. Cade Collenback had a four bagger in the second inning. Jordan had a dinger in the eighth inning.
Marshall racked up eight hits in the game. Chris Tobias and Cristian Aguilar all managed multiple hits for Marshall. Aguilar and Tobias each collected two hits to lead Marshall.
O’Connor saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Collenback, Jordan, and Potts all collected multiple hits for O’Connor. Collenback led O’Connor with three hits in four at bats.
